C3.8 Fullerenes and Graphene Flashcards
1
Q
Whats the possible medical application of fullerene cages?
A
- Used for drug delivery into the body
- For example used as ‘bucky mules’ to delivery drugs or radioactive atoms to treat cancer at very specific sites within the body.
2
Q
What are some properties of Fullerenes?
A
-high tensile strength to make composite and small, strong materials.
-high electrical conductivity and high thermal activity
(like bonding in graphite, delocalised electrons used which conduct electricity).
3
Q
What do fullerene diagrams look like?
A
A round hollow cage with all sorts of shapes around it on the outer area of it joined together.
4
Q
What do Graphene structure look like?
A
Very thin sheet, that goes on,with shapes and connected with spheres.
5
Q
What can Graphene do?
A
Because its thin and can take electricity it can turn into technology in the near future as chips can be developed on it.
