what does rehabilitation involve?
care that is managed by professionals to help restore a person to the highest possible level of functioning. and involves helping a resident move from illness, disability, and dependence, toward health, ability and independence. It involves all parts of the persons disability including physical as well as psychosocial needs

what is a prosthesis
a device that replaces a body part that is missing or deformed because of an accident, injury, illness or birth defect
what should be observed about the skin on the stump of an amputated body part?
observe the skin on stump for signs of skin breakdown caused by pressure and abrasion and report any redness or open areas
why should alcohol not be used to clean an artificial eye
alcohol will crack the plastic and destroy it
what is the purpose of range of motion ROM exercises
decrease or prevent contractures, improve strength, and increase circulation
when performing ROm exercises, where should the NA begin? which parts of the body should be exercised first?
begin at the residents shoulders and work down the body, the NA should exercise the upper extremities (arms) before the lower extremities (legs)
describe the difference between passive, active, and active assisted range of motion exercises
passive range of motion (PROM) exercises are used when residents are not able to move on their own. PROM exercises are performed by the caregiver, without the residents help. The NA should support the residents joints while moving them through the range of motion. Active range of motion (AROM) exercises are performed by a resident himself, without help. The NAs role in AROM exercises is to encourage the resident and exercises are done by the resident with some assistance and support from the NA or other caregiver
why are deep breathing exercises performed?
deep breathing exercises help expand the lungs, clearing them of mucus and preventing infections
