British Civil War Flashcards
What were the causes of the English Civil War?
Religious reasons and Economic reasons
What caused religious reasons
One reason is when Charles l made William Laud Archbishop of Canterbury , Laud changed the religious rules into catholic religious rules which made English and Scottish puritans very angry. This is the reason why the Scottish attacked England, it was because they did not like the religious changes.
What caused Economic reasons
One reason is that Charles l ruled without the parliament for 11 years and spending large amount of money for himself. Another reason is that Charles l also needed lots of money so he made his country pay a special tax called ‘ship money’. My last example is that Charles l had to call the parliament to ask for money to fight the Scots (referring back to religious reasons).
