Inferiorly - 6th rib
Medially - sternal edge
Laterally - midaxillarly line
What attaches the breast to the dermis?
Suspensory ligament of cooper
What muscles does the breast sit on?
Pettorali fascia (covering pec major), and fascia covering serratous anterior
Whats the areola?
Pigmented area around nipples
Borders of the axilla
Medial - seratous anetior
Lateral - intertubercular groove of humerus

Inferolateral
Blood supply to the breast
Medial - internal thoracic, branch of subclavian
Lateral - lateral thoracix (axillary), lateral mammary (posterior intercostal), mammary branch (anterior intercostal).
Where does lymph drain from the breast?
Axillary nodes drain lateral quadrants - >75% of lymph drainage
Parasternal nodes drains medial quadrants or to opposite breast.
What is the role of sentinal lymph node biopsy?
Lymphatic mapping and staging
A radiolabelled colloid is used to locate sentinel node
At time of staging a blue dye is injected
Radioisotope and dye allows localisation
What’s polymastia
An extra breast
What’s polythelia
An extra nipple
What’s amastia
Absence of breast
What’s athelia
Absence of nipple
