benign neoplasm that grows within the ducts of the breast
- > DISCHARGE: clear or blood
- > subareolar mass
- > peri or post emnopausal women

Mastitis
There are 2 types
- lactational - stasis of milk in lactating women
- non lactational in smokers
Presentation
Swollen breast, tender, warm, red and might have general feeling unwell (fever, unwell, aches)
Complication: abcess- > fistula

What are the treatment of a breast abcess?
- US guided FNA
- FBC, CRP and BLood culture
Treatment of an abcess:
surgical drainage
IV or oral antibiotics
What is the most common cancer in the UK?
BREAST CANCER
1 in 7 females
What is the most common cause of malignant breast tissue cancer?
invasive ductal carcinoma
What is the most comon pathogen that causes mastitis?
Staph aureus
Name the invasive and non invasive cancers:
Non invasive- ductal carcinoma in situ
Invasive- infiltrative ductal carcinoma (75%), infiltrative lobalar carcinoma, Paget’s disease of the breast
What are risk factors for breast cancer
nulliparty
oestrogen (age of menarchy, HRT, COCP, late menopause)
obesity
FHx- first degree relative
AGE
Signs and symptoms of breast cancer
inverted nipple
peau d’orange
bloody discharge
tethering
eczematous looking (padget’s )
LUMP: painless, irregular margin and non compressible and tethered
What are sign of metastasis in breast cancer
back pain (spinal metastatis)
breathlessness
neurological symptoms
