Brainstem of movement Flashcards
superior colliculus
receives iput from retina, cerebellum, and basal ganglia. mediates medial musculature. This is involved in orientation, and gaze position.
pineal gland tumors do what?
eye paralysis due to compression of the superior colliculus.
voluntary movement
its all a lie. nothing is voluntary, freewill does not exist, we are robots forced to execute the will of subatomic interactions that govern the laws of our universe. slaves… the motor cortex also helps us execute voluntary movement more efficiently with practice, which is different than reflexes which can never change.
microstimulation experiments
found muscles are recruited in groups, which are organized, and maybe due to anatomical organization due to cortical neuron branching which leads multiple muscle innervation. Thought of as motor fields, and these are plastic in nature.
practice and use effect on motor cortex mapping
the me you use something the more expansive the zone in the motor cortex, and these zones will enlarge and compress depending the repetition of use
average of the averages
directly encodes the direction of motor units
