Brachial Muscles Flashcards
Which muscles are in the anterior brachial compartment?
Biceps brachii, coracobrachialis and brachialis
Which muscles are in the posterior brachial compartment?
Triceps brachii and aconeus muscle
What are the attachment sites for the long and short heads of biceps brachii?
Long head: supraglenoid tubercle of the scapula
Short head: coracoid process of the scapula
What is the insertion of biceps brachii?
Radial tuberosity and antebrachial fascia as the bicipital aponeurosis
What is the action of biceps brachii?
Flex the humerus
Flex the supine forearm and supinate forearm
The short head resists dislocation of the shoulder
What innervates the anterior compartment of brachial muscles?
Musculocutaneous nerve
What are the attachment sites for coracobrachialis?
O: coracoid process of scapula
I: medial aspect of the humeral body
What is the action of coracobrachialis?
Flex and adduct the humerus
What are the attachment sites for brachialis muscle?
O: distal half of the anterior aspect of the humeral body
I: ulnar tuberosity and coronoid process
What is the action of the brachialis muscle?
Flex the forearm
What are the origin sites for triceps brachii?
Long head: infraglenoid tubercle of scapula
Lateral head: posterior aspect of humeral body, superiorly to the radial groove
Medial head: posterior aspect of the humeral body inferior to radial groove
What is the insertion site for triceps brachii?
Olecranon process of ulna and antebrachial fascia
What is the action for triceps brachii>
Extend the forearm
Long head resists dislocation of the shoulder
Which nerve innervates the posterior brachial compartment?
Radial N
What are the attachment sites for aconeus muscle?
O: lateral humeral epicondyle
I: lateral aspect of olecranon
