bovine abortion Flashcards
Early embryonic death
260=viable, or sitllborn
eed
more common in dairy cattle. energy requirements.
dairy v. beef
dairy- non infectious- chromosomal abnormalities, drugs, nutrient deficiency, toxic plants, heat stress. beef cattle- infectious
IBR/BHV1
vx good. respiratory, abortion, repro disorders, neonatal septicemia. autolyzed abortions, pathognomonic sign is focal necrosis on liver, intranuclear inclusion bodies. serology. give modified live vx if not pregnant. kill vx okay in pregnant.
BVD
gi mucosal diease. repro, congenital dz, mummified abortions, cytopathic infections deadly. ear notch test.
lepto
urine or abortion products. invades mucus membranes. serovards-interrogans, borgpetersenii, kirschneri. silver staining, fat in urine. vx.
maitenance chronic lepto serovars
endemic infection, persistent infection, asymptomatic, high susceptibility
incidental acute lepto serovar
high dose for infection, acute, leptosiuria. chronic more common for infertility and abortion
vibriosis
campylobacter. endometritis. extended estrus.
protozoal infections
tritrichomonas, neospora, sarcocystis, toxoplasma. pyometra. neospora-major abortions in dairy cattle. tramsit to fetus.
mycotic abortions
thickened, leathery cotyledon
toxic plants
ponderosa pine needles- estrogenic compounds that cause abortions. common in 3rd trimester. locoweed- alkaloid increased pgf2a secretion, affects CL, chrioallantois, neurons. broomweed/snakeweed- saponin. abortion, premature. moldy sweet clover- fetal hemorrhage.
