1690- new act required all streets to be cleaned

-Parliament passed an act after the Great Fire, to rebuild London streets wider

- people had to live close to where they work and there were no building regulations
- water , gas and electricity were all supplied by private companies so poor people did not get any
Who was Edwin Chadwick and what did he do?
- A member of the clean party and the poor law commission
- Wanted reform for clean streets and water, published a report on the sanitary condition of labourers
Why did the government make the first public health act of 1848 and what was it?
- Edwin Chadwick’s report was the basis for it
- Cholera epidemic which killed 52,000 people which forced gov to act
