Anatomical positon
A person standing erect with the face directed forward and the upper limbs hanging to the sides. Palms of the hands facing forward.
supine
person laying face up.

proximal opposite (far from)
distal opposite (close to)
cephalic opposite (tail)
caudal opposite (head)
ventral opposite (belly)

medial opposite (side)
head, neck, trunk region
the central region of the body is made of these three parts.
Trunk region divisions (3)
thorax, abdomen, and pelvis divide this region
Arm region divisions (4)
arm, forearm, wrist, hand divide this region
Lower limb divisions (4)
thigh, leg, ankle, and foot divide this region
Sagittal plane
This plane separates the body or structure into right and left halves.
Transverse Plane
This plane runs parallel to the ground.
Median Plane
This plane is a sagittal plane that passes through the midline of the body.
Frontal (Coronal) Plane
This plane divides the body into front and back
Longitudinal section
A cut through the length of an organ
transverse section
a cut at a right angle to the length of an organ.
oblique section
a cut made across the length of an organ at other than a right angle.
Dorsal Body cavity (2 subdivisions)
This cavity encloses the organs of the nervous system, bran, and spinal cord.

This cavity houses the vast majority of our internal organs.
