Q

Taking L-tryptophan and 5-HTP supplements with protein-rich foods does or does not improve absorption?

A

DOES NOT improve their absorption. They should be taken away from protein rich foods so that they are not competing for absorption and more can reach the bloodstream. Take away from other food or with fruit.

A

1.Mercury- very toxic element, which disturbs brain function and makes you crazy.Effects include -
Headaches and memory loss.

Q

Name the four families of fats that the brain and nervous system are dependent on.

A
  1. Saturated and monounsaturated fat
  2. Cholesterol
  3. Omega 3 (polyunsaturated) fat - esp EPA and DHA

  3. Excess sweating and strong body odour

17
Q

Why do diabetics develop nerve, eye and brain damage?

A

Because when blood sugar levels go above the maximum threshold, which is what happens in diabetes,
glucose become toxic to the brain. The reason this happens is that an excess of glucose, much like
oxidants, damages nerve cells and stops them working properly. This happens because glucose reacts
with proteins in the brain and nervous system. This reaction, calledglycation, stops the protein from
moving freely and membranes start to get thicker and ‘gunked up’, slowing down brain communication.
Excesses of glucose also cause inflammation in the brain, which is the bodys way of saying that
something is wrong.

18
Q

Provide the seven general guidelines that ensure someone is eating low-GL carbohydrates.

A
  1. Choose whole foods

  5. Avoid overly processed food
  6. Choose whole grains
  7. If you drink juice, dilute it (50/50)
19

the four contributors to mental illness:

A

Environment
