definition of body awareness
conscious awareness and identification of the location, position, and movement of the body and its individual parts in space, the interrelationships among those body parts, and the relationship between the body and its parts (moving or stationary) to the external environment

definition of body image
concept a person has of his or her body as an object in space, independent of all other objects
- how someone “sees” oneself in minds eye
- includes dimension of “body proportion” as well as dimension of performance characteristics
