How to use an AED (7 steps)

A
  1. turn on AED and follow prompts
  2. apply pads to patients bare chest and connect the adaptor
  3. clear for analysis
  4. wait for indication whether to shock or not
  5. If shocking, clear the patient
  6. press shock, looking head to toe before doing so
  7. Straight back to compressions

What are the Ps you should consider before using a defib?

A

Pacemaker - ensure pads are one inch or more away

Piercings - 1 inch away from piercings

Perspiration - clean sweat off the patient

Patches- should be removed and areas wiped

Pendant - remove jewellery
