Pt presents with jaundice and pallor. Has anema, reticulocytosis and increaesd indirect bilirubin. Smear show cells lacking central pallor.
Increased Mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration from dehydration of RBC.
Pts have elevated lactate dehydrogenase, reticulocytosis and decreased haptoglobin.

Defective binding of red cell cytoskeleton to plasma membrane from mutation of ankyrin, band 3 and spectrin proteins

Levels decrease in any form of hemolytic anemia.
