Blood supply to the heart Flashcards
why does the heart need its own blood vessels?
the heart is to thick to recieve blood directly from its chambers therfore the heart has its own blood vessels.
what are the blood vessels that supply blood to the heart?
the right and left coronary arteries branch off the ascending aorta to supply the heart with blood.
What does the right coronary artery do ?
it supplies the right atrium, both ventricles and AV and SA nodes. (intrinsic cardiac conduction system)
What does the left coronary artery do ?
The left coronary artery supplies the left ventricle, left atrium and the interventricular septum.
where is the right coronary artery branches found?
Posterior interventricular branch and one or more marginal arteries and usually near a sulcus.
Where is the left coronary artery branches found?
Anterior interventricular branchand the circumflex artery and usually near a sulcus.
What is the job of the Coronary veins?
they connect to coronary arteries via capillary networks to drain the deoxygenated blood.
what does the Great cardiac vein do?
it drains the blood supply by the anterior interventricular artery.
What does the Small cardiac vein do?
it drains blood from the posterior right atrium and right ventricle.
what does the middle cardiac vein do?
It drains the blood supplied by the posterior inventricular arteries.
What do veins do in general?
in general blood flow is toward the heart and is usually low in oxygen, there are exceptions to this rule.
All coronary veins drain?
they drain into the coronary sinus which is located in the coronary sulcus.
