Blood Pressure Flashcards
1
Q
Definition of Blood pressure (BP)
A
hydrostatic pressure of the blood in the blood vessels from the contraction of the ventricles moving blood away from the heart. Blood pressure drops naturally as we move away from the heart, and is lowest in the systemic venules and veins. Blood Pressure is also dependent upon blood volume, if blood volume decreases then blood pressure decreases vice versa!

Q
What does MAP stand for?
A
Means arterial pressure = diastolic BP + 1/3 (pulse pressure) and Pulse pressure = systolic pressure - diastolic pressure
Range is 70-110 and must be at lest 60 to supply the brain and heart with blood.
