What are the symptoms of a stroke in the anterior cerebral artery?
Contralateral hemiparesis (weakness or inability to move on one side of the body)
Contralateral hemisensory loss - mainly leg and foot
Inability to identify objects correctly
Personality changes
What are the symptoms of a stroke in the middle cerebral artery?
Contralateral hemiparesis and hemisensory loss of mainly FACE AND ARM.
Pre and postcentral gyri
What are the symptoms of a stroke in the posterior cerebral artery?
Contralateral homonymous hemianopia (loss of vision)
Impairment of memory
What haemorrhage has occurred when there is bruising on the side of the head and what artery has been affected?
Extra-dural
Middle meningeal USUALLY (sometimes the dural venous sinuses but very rare)
Where does an extra-dural hamorrhage occur?
Epidural hematoma between calvaria and dura mater.
Where does a subdural haemorrhage occur?
Between the dura and arachnoid mater
What happens in a subdural haemorrhage and what are the symptoms?
Rupturing of veins
Occurs between dura and arachnoid
Occurs over a long period
What are some symptoms of a sub-arachnoid haemorrhage?
Sudden loss of consciousness
