Anterior Triangle 1 Flashcards
Origin, Insertion, action, innervation of Mylohyoid
Origin - mylohyoid line on mandible
Insertion - body of hyoid (and fibres of mylohyoid on other side)
Innervation - nerve to mylohyoid (branch of IAN)
Origin, Insertion, Action, innervation Digastric (posterior and anterior)
Left and right digastric muscle, each with a posterior and anterior muscle.
Origin
Anterior - medial aspect of mandible
Posterior - medial side of mastoid process (temporal bone)
Insertion - attachment of their intermediate tendon at hyoid
Innervation
Anterior - nerve to mylohyoid (branch of IAN)
Posterior - digastric branch of facial nerve (CNVII)
Origin and insertion stylohyoid
origin - styloid process
Insertion - body of hyoid
Action - elevates hyoid bone - pulls up
Origin and insertion geniohyoid
Origin - mental spine of mandible
Insertion - Body of hyoid (located superior to mylohyoid)
What nerve(s) innervates the infrahyoid muscles?
Omohyoid, sternohyoid, sternothyroid - The anterior rami of C1-C3 via the ANSA CERVICALIS.
Thyrohyoid - anterior rami of C1 but fibres that are carried with the hypoglossal nerve
Origin, insertion, innervation sternothyroid
Origin - posterior surface of the manubrium of the sternum
Insertion - Oblique line on thyroid cartilage
Innervation - Anterior rami of C1-C3 - ANSA CERVICALIS
Origin, insertion, innervation thyrohyoid
Origin - oblique line on thyroid cartilage
Insertion - Greater horn and body of hyoid bone
Innervation - Anterior rami of C1 - fibres that run with hypoglossal nerve (CNXII)
What artery supplies the parathyroid glands?
Inferior thyroid arteries.
NB Venous drainage - superior, middle and inferior thyroid vein.
What nerve innervates the parathyroid glands?
Thyroid branches from the cervical sympathetic ganglion (CNVII)
Origin and Insertion of the omohyoid (inferior and superior belly)
Superior
Origin - intermediate tendon (fascial sling)
Insertion - Body of the hyoid bone
Inferior
Origin - Superior border of scapula near suprascapular notch
Insertion - intermediate tendon (fascial sling)
Origin and insertion sternohyoid
Origin - manubrium of sternum
Insertion - body of the hyoid
What are the boundaries of the anterior triangle?
Mid-line of the neck
Anterior border of the SCM
Inferior border of the mandible
What is the action of the mylohyoid?
Elevates the hyoid bone and depresses the mandible
What veins drain into the external jugular vein?
Posterior external jugular
Anterior jugular
Suprascapular
Transverse cervical
Innervation of geniohyoid
Anterior rami of C1 but fibres travel with hypoglossal nerve
