Blood And Circulation- Triple Flashcards
1
Q
Describe vaccinations
A
- Injected with a dead or inactive pathogen into the body
- These carry antigens which trigger an immune response
- Your lymphocytes produces antibodies to attack them
- Some lymphocytes will remain in the body as memory cells so if the same type of pathogen appears again the antibodies will kill it
2
Q
Platelets
A
- Fragments of large cells
- If the skin is cut the chemical fibrin is made
- Forms a network around the wound to trap the red blood cells
- This forms a clot which prevents further loss of blood and entry of pathogens
3
Q
How does your body maintain your temperature of your too hot
A
- Lots of sweat is produced
- Blood vessels widen (vasodilation) which allows more blood To flow near the surface so it can radiate more heat
- Hairs lie flat
4
Q
How does your body maintain your temperature of your too cold
A
- Blood vessels constrict (vasoconstriction) so that less heat can be transferred to its surroundings
- Shivering generates heat to its muscles
- Hairs stand on ends to trap an insulating layer of warm air
