Bleed/Pneumatic Flashcards

1
Q

What does the bleed system do and what systems is it connected to?

A

The bleed system supplies hot pressurised air for anti ice, air conditioning, water pressure, hydraulic reservoir pressure and engine starting

Q

What are the 3 sources of bleed air?

A

Engine IP compressor stage
Engine HP pressure stage when pressure or temp of IP stage is too low
APU bleed (has priority over all other bleed sources but cannot be used for anti ice

Q

What happens after air is tapped from the engine bleed system?

A

The BMC will tap air from the IP or HP stage automatically. Once tapped it passes through engine bleed valve and then passes through a pre-cooler which is an air to air heat exchanger using cool air from the engine. The air is cooled to around 200 degrees and is then ready to feed the various bleed demands.

Q

Describe the APU bleed system

A

Has priority over engines bleeds.
The APU pb on bleed air supplies the pneumatic system if APU speed is above 95%. This opens the APU bleed valve, opens the crossbleed valve and closes the engine bleed valve.
