BIOMECHANICS 1 Flashcards
LINEAR MOTION
when a body moves in a straight or curved line, with all parts moving the same distance in the same direction at the same speed
FORCE
a push or pull that alters, or tends to alter, the state of motion of a body (N)
INTERIA
the resistance of a body to change its state of rest or motion
VEOCTIY
the rate of motion in a particular direction. velocity = displacement / time (ms-1)
MOMENTUM
the quantity of motion possessed by a moving body. momentum = mass x velocity (kg ms-1)
ACCELERATION
the rate of change of velocity. acceleration = change in velocity / time (ms-2)
ACTION FORCE
force exerted by a performer on another body
REACTION FORCE
an equal and opposite force to the action force exerted by a second body on the first.
MASS
the amount of matter or substance in a body
DISTANCE
the path taken in moving from the first position to the second (m)
DISPLACEMENT
the shortest straight-line route between two positions in a stated direction (m)
SPEED
a body’s movement per unit time (m/s)
DECELERATION
the rate of decrease I’m velocity. deceleration = change in negative acceleration / time (ms-2)
LAW OF CONSERVATION OF MOMENTUM
in any system if bodies that exert forces on each other, the total momentum in any direction remains constant unless some external force acts on the system in that direction
INTERNAL FORCE
force generated by the contraction of skeletal muscle
