Biomech definitions Flashcards
acceleration
rate of change of velocity
angular motion
a form of motion where all parts of an object do not experience the same displacement
base of support (BOS)
the area of contact between an object and its surroundings where reaction forces can be generated
centre of mass (com)
the point in an object or body where the sum of the products of the masses equal zero
centre of pressure (COP)
the point on a plane surface at which the resultant pressure on the surface may be taken to act
displacement
the difference in position of two points
electromyography (EMG)
the measurement of electrical activity in muscle fibers
force
a mechanical interaction between an object and its surroundings
force platform
an instrument used to measure the reaction forces three dimensions and moments about those three axes
kinematics
the description of motion of a body in terms of displacement, velocity nad acceleratin without reference to the forces causing hte motion
kinetics
the description of motion of a body in terms of the forces that cause the motion
linear motion
a form of motion in which all parts of an object experience the same displacement
