What are the effects of smoking on alveoli?

A

tar breaks wall of alveoli (causing them to merge together)
-thus creates insufficient SA:V - allowing less gas exchange.
Reduces efficiency of gas exchange, causing emphysema (less O2 carried in blood) - exercise is difficult

A

tobaco smoke contains carcinogens such as tar

smiking increases risk of lung cancer

What are the effects of smoking on circulatory system?

A

nicotine narrows blood vessels so will increase blood pressure

-narrow blood vessels are likely to become clagged with fat (like colesterol)
If this happens in coronary artery, it causes coronary disease.

Heart muscles dont gent sufficient O2 so less aerobic respiration takes place
