Bioenergetics [Life's Energy] Flashcards
Autotrophs
Light to chemical energy
Heterotrophs
Chemical energy consumption and use then passed on to carnivores.
Combustion from most to least energy
- Carbs
- Protein
- Alcohol
- Fat
Can People Actually Fail
Metabolism from most to least energy
- Alcohol
- Fat
- Proteins
- Carbs
A Fat Person eats Carbs
5 reasons why combustion differs from metabolism
Access to bonds Enzymes Molecules rearrangement Fat stores well Fat can’t be metabolised w/o O2
Structure of ATP
3 phosphates, ribose, adenine
How does ATP release energy and where does the most energy come from?
Charged P’s released and change conformations. The 3rd releases the most bc it has the most negative charge around it, meaning it leaves more easily and alters proteins more.
What types of bonds are in ATP
Phosphoanhydride
What type of reaction is ATP use and why?
Exothermic
There is always heaps of ATP (More reactant)
Rate of Formation greater than products.
What are the two laws of gibb’s free energy?
- Energy is not created or destroyed, it just changed form.
2. Overall entropy of universe is increasing.
Does atp predict rate of reaction?
Nope
