How does deforestation in the Sumatran rain forests affect the orangutans?
Haven’t got space to find food, to find females to mate with, to play. Orangutans can’t jump on small leaves/branches type trees.
How is the Gene pool affected?
Not enough Orangutans in an area, can cause mutations etc.
What is transmigration?
These people are pushed/bribed to go live on marginal lands by the government to relive pressures on the main busy cities such as Jakarta.

Mono culture

What was the goverment’s point about it’s scheme in Indonesia?
Currently the land use is non-productive and hope that it becomes more productive. Palm oil production creates more opportunities. Multiplier effect, supports government and people, makes jobs, chances for entrepreneurship.
