Bio 2 Flashcards
Somatic cells
Cells that form the body of a multi-celled organism.
Gamete
are haploid cells only containing one strand of DNA of their pair
Transcription
copies genes into mRNA that travels to the cytoplasm where the mRNA is translated into a protein
Translation
mRNA is translated into a protein
Sympathetic automatic nervous system
increases heart rate, releases sugar from the liver into blood stream in preparation of fight or flight, or activity
Parasympathetic automatic nervous system,
stimulates secretion of saliva or digestive enzymes
Hypothalamus
Homeostasis, regulation through hormone control.
Cerebellum
Balance muscle coordination, higher learning, math music, advanced social skills
Brain stem
Breathing, Heart rate, alertness / consciousness
Glycolysis, how many ATP and NDAH are produced during glycolysis?
Glycolysis produces 4 ATPs and 2 NADH, but uses 2 ATPs for a net of 2 ATP and 2 NDAH.
How many Na+ that are removed during glycolysis?
Since glycolysis produces two ATP molecules per glucose and 3 Na+ molecules are extruded for each ATP molecule utilized by the sodium pump the answer is 6.
