BENEFITS OF THE TOURISM INDUSTRY TO THE CARIBBEAN Flashcards
Foreign exchange/contribution to GDP
When we get that π²πΈπ° by them tourists on travel, accommodation, food, entertainment, sightseeing and from the purchase of specialized items like local
crafts/souvenirs.π€
Give two examples of countries that are heavily dependant on tourism-
Barbados and Jamaica are heavily dependent on tourism to earn revenue.π
Employment
many persons are directly employed in the tourism industry β jobs such as guides, waiters, hotel staff and cooks. Many others are also indirectly employed β those involved in construction, food supply, transport
(such as airline staff and chauffeurs), shopping centres, restaurants and the entertainment industry.π·ββοΈπ©βπ³π©βπΎ
Competition
Like okay, letβs be honest weβre not that great so obviously, there are others who are more π
than us they are the βsunshineβ destinations smh-
such as Hawaii, Mexico and the Maldives. Some destinations, such as Mexico, offer cheap all-inclusive vacation packages that are very attractive to tourists.
Uncertain economic conditions
RECESSION IS AH THINGG!! (a period of temporary
economic decline during which trade and industrial activity are reduced. During a recession, many people become unemployed or earn lower wages.) As
a result, fewer people travel and so countries receive fewer tourists. This can be harmful to countries that are heavily dependent on tourism. *cough cough Barbados and Jamaica
Environmental damage and pollution- cuz pple that dotish
tourists developments, such as hotels on the coast, can damage or destroy natural ecosystems. Improper
disposal of waste by hotels or cruise ships can lead to both land and water pollution.
(as I said dotish pple) smh
Spread of diseases
YES PPLE OUT HERE SPREADING RONA!!
tourists often introduce diseases into countries. Get the vaccine yaβll ππ·
