Beneficial Interactions Communities: MUTUALISM and FACILITATION Flashcards
Probiosis
Ecological facilitation
refers to
the interaction of species that benefits at
least one of the participants and harms neither
Ecological facilitation (Probiosis)
interactions between individuals of different species that benefit both partner and
usually involves the direct exchange of goods or services
Mutualism
2 forms of mutualism
- Obligate Mutualism
- Facultative Mutualism
A form of mutualism where the relationship
between two are completely dependent
on each other.
- the species involved are in close
proximity
Obligate Mutualism
A type of mutualism in which the
interacting species derive benefit from
each other but not being fully dependent
that each cannot survive without the
symbiotic partner.
Facultative Mutualism
type of facilitation that occurs when one species benefits from an interaction, while the other neither
benefits or is harmed.
