mechanical methods of denture hygiene
- soft bristled brush and soap
- microwave - 20s max, no metal
- denture bath
alkaline peroxides for denture cleaning

what is osteomyelitis

bacteria invasion sees oedema in bone marrow leading to blood vessel occlusion which allows bacteria to proliferate
treatment of osteomyelitis
requires antibiotics or surgery - referral to specialist
symptoms of osteomyelitis
chronic cases see no systemic symptoms
acute cases may be systemically unwell
radiographically a moth eaten appearance to bone
generally affects the immunocompromised
discuss osteoradionecrosis
seen in patients with history of head and neck radiotherapy
can be brought on by extraction
radiated bone is verging on non vital (reduced blood supply, slow turnover) so self repair ineffective
