BCO 01.16 - MAGTF Communications System Flashcards
What are Characteristics of MAGTF Communications Systems?
- FIRST-T
- Flexibility
- Interoperability
- Reliability
- Security
- Timeliness
- Survivability
What does Flexibility mean?
-Capable of rapid -Reconfiguration
Responsive to change
What is Interoperability?
- Ability to enable information to be exchanged among all commanders and forces
- Sharing info across all platforms
What is Reliability?
-Available when needed
Perform as intended
-Does what it needs to do when it needs to do it.
What is Security?
- Adequate to user’s requirements
- Adequate to potential threat (interception, exploitation)
- Compromise/disrupt our comm
What is Timeliness?
-
- Process and transfer information rapidly to maintain a high tempo of operations
- Needs to be where we need it when we need it.
What is Survivability?
-Measures taken to prevent disruption by enemy or natural disaster Enhanced by Dispersal Physical protection Electromagnetic hardening Redundancy -"Two is one and one is none"
What is information?
- All information that is needed to support the decision-making process on the battlefield—that information required to execute the planning, decision, execution, and assessment cycles in combat
- Facts, Data, or instructions in any medium
What is the info heiarchy?
- Develop an understanding of the situation, i.e. situational awareness
- Analyze and evaluate information to produce knowledge
- Process raw data into understandable information
- Collect raw data
What are the facets of info quality?
- Relevance
- Timeliness
- Accuracy
- Completeness
- Objectivity - undistorted/factual
- Usability
How can provide redundancy as Commos?
- Have different mediums of comms, i
i. e. HF is down we can use VHF
What are the elements of a C2 system?
- People
- Info
- C2 support structure
What are peoples role in the C2 system?
- Gather info
- Make decisions
- Take action
- Communicate
- Cooperate to accomplish the mission
- People drive the C&C system = they make things happen the rest of the system exists only to serve them.
What is information role in the C2 system?
- Representations of reality which we use to “inform”—to give form and character to—our decisions and actions.
- Information is the words, letters, numbers, images, and symbols we use to represent things, events, ideas, and values
How do we increase the quality of info?
- Analyze the data through cognition
- Form the knowledge into understanding through judgment
