Difference between inflammation (-itis) and infection (infectious/bacterial)

A

Inflammation of the bladder lining = cystitis
Infection of the bladder lining causing inflammation = bacterial cystitis

Inflammation of the appendix = appendicitis
Infection of the appendix causing inflammation = infected appendicitis (often referred to as appendicitis)
