-decreased CNS depression with taken with alcohol, antihistamines, & her barbiturates
-altered response to phenytoin
-MAOI
-decreased effectiveness to oral contraceptives, digoxin, TCS, corticosteroids, anticoagulants
Barbiturates/ phenobarbital nursing considerations
-asses for hx of addiction to sedative-hypnotic drug
-obtain patient history & complete medication list
-assess baseline neurological & CV
-taper slowly
-use oral form of medications if possible & give IV slowly
