Antibiotic
Drug that destroys bacteria inside the body without damaging human cells
Antiviral drugs
A drug that kills or inhibits viruses and is used to treat viral infections
Double blind trials
A drug trial in which neither the patient nor the doctor know if the patient is receiving the new drug or placebo
Monoclonal antibody
A specific antibody produced by one of numerous identical cells that came from a single parent cell
Penicillin
A specific type of antibiotic
Placebo
A substance used in clinical trials which does not contain any drug at all
Resistance
The degree to which pathogenic microorganisms remain unaffected by antibiotics and other drugs
Vaccination
Introducing small quantities of dead or inactive pathogen into the body to stimulate the white blood cells to produce antibodies that destroy the pathogens. This makes the person immune to future infection
