What is a clone?
An organism which is identical to its parent
Why does bacterial reproduction only result in clones?
Because all of the DNA is identical, no new DNA is mixed in

Starfish, sea anemone
What does sexual reproduction require?
2 parents
Why do offspring resulting from sexual reproduction not have the same DNA à as their parents?
Their parents have different DNA so it will mix
What is a gamete?
A sex cell produced by an organism
What are the 2 gametes called?
Sperm
Ova
What happens when gametes fuse together?
They are fertilisation
How do plants reproduce?
The pollen cell from the male has to fuse with an egg cell from the female in the ovule
What are the advantages of sexual reproduction?
The variation in offspring can lead to adaptations which can make life easier
What are the disadvantages of sexual reproduction?
2 parents are needed
What are the advantages of asexual reproduction?
You only need one parent and if the parent is well adapted then the offspring will be able to live fine
What are the disadvantages of asexual reproduction?
No changes mean that if something bad happens, it will affect the whole population and lead to extinction
