B2-Blood Flashcards

1
Q

What happens on the right hand side of the heart?

A

1) This is (indicated in blue) receives de-oxygenated blood from the tissues(via the vena cava) into the right atrium.
2) The de-oxygenated blood is forced through the tricuspid valves into right ventricle
3) Then is finally the blood is pumped is forced under high pressure out of the right ventricle to the lungs via pulmonary artery

Q

What happens on the left side of the heart?

A

This side of the heart receives the oxygenated blood from the lungs via the pulmonary veins into the left atrium
2)The oxygenated blood passes through the bicuspid valves into the left ventricle. Then pumped to the aorta under greater pressure

Q

What is the order of cardiac Cycle

A

1) De-oxygenated blood come from Superior Vena cava
2) Right atrium to Tricuspid valve
3) Right ventricle to pulmonary veins
4) Pulmonary artery to the lungs
5) Then gas exchange happens in lungs.
6) Oxygenated blood is carried through pulmonary veins
7) The to left atrium
8) Then to the aortic valve
9) Left ventricle
10) Pumped out of heart out of the aortic valve

Q

Why is it important for blood to be pumped around the body?

A

1) It carries oxygen
2) Removes the waste products of respiration
3) Distributes heat around the body
4) Transports hormones, Nutrients, salts and enzymes

Q

What is Anaemia?

A

Anaemia is the result of not having enough red blood cells to take oxygen around the body or having a fault red blood cells that are unable to carry enough oxygen.

Q

Cause of stroke

A

As we age our arteries become harder and narrower which makes it more likely to be blocked. But can also be caused by lifestyle factors which can speed process of stroke

13
Q

What are the three different types of stroke

A

1) An ischaemic stroke caused by blockage cutting off blood supply to the brain
2) A haemorrhagic stroke caused by bleeding in or around the brain
3) A transient ischaemic attack or TIA known as mini stroke this is a blockage that stops blood getting into the brain which is temporary

Q

What is hypertension?

A

High blood [pressure is medically known as hypertension it mean when the blood pressure is too high which means our heart work harder to pump blood around the body. This can lead to heart failure, heart attacks, strokes and vascular dementia

Q

What is Low blood pressure

A

1) Systolic lower than 90mmHg

2) Diastolic Lower than 60mmHg

17
Q

What is possible hypertension?

A

1) Systolic: between 140 and 180 mmHg

2) Diastolic: Between 90 and 110 mmHg

18
Q

What is coronary heart Disease(CHD)

A

Coronary heart disease is the term used to describe what happens when your heart’s blood supply is interrupted by a build of fatty substances in the coronary arteries

19
Q

Symptoms of CHD

A

1)Chest pains
2)Shortness of breath
3)Pain throughout the body
4Feeling faint

20
Q

What does Systolic blood pressure mean

A

Systolic BP is the pressure of blood of when the ventricle are contacting

21
Q

What is Diastolic BP

A

The pressure of blood when the ventricles are relaxed and filled

22
Q

What is the order of blood when its goes through blood vessels?

A

1) Aorta is the largest blood vessel carries oxygenated
2) Many major arteries branch off the aorta to supply different area of the body with 02
2) Arteries lead to smaller blood vessels called arterioles which deliver blood to the capillaries in the body organ and tissues
3) Capillaries supply the cells and tissue with nutrients from the blood
4) Capillaries unit arterioles and venules in the cells and tissue
