Define the ‘public sector’
The public sector is when NHS services are provided by the goverment/state and are funded through taxes
Health public bodies example

Social care bodies example
Local authorities (councils) organsations
What is the role of the NHS foundation trusts?
Run hospitals, provide mental/coommunity/children health and they will work in partnership with other organisations
What local authorities do
Local authorities commission organisations to provide social care services, such as day care and domiciliary care
What sector can the commissioned organisations be in?
They can either be in the public, private or voluntary sector.
List 2 types of commissioned services for adult social care
- residential care
- nursing homes
List 4 things local authorities are responsible for providing
- care in the home
- support for carers
- financial support
- equipment to enhance independence
Define what ‘commissioning services’ means
Commissioning services means planning service specification and agreeing on service procurement
List an example of a service which is provided by the private sector.
An example of a service which is provided by the private sector is residential care homes.
What are the two ways residential care homes are funded?
Residential care homes are funded by the residents, they pay for their own care.
It could be provided by local authorities and the public sector to support residents who can’t afford it.
