Axillary and Brachial Blood Vessels Flashcards
where does the axillary artery start
lateral border of the first rib as continuation of the subclavian artery.
where does the axillary artery end
the lower border of teres major muscle ,then becomes brachial artery.
what is the name of the first part of the artery
Superior thoracic artery
where does the superior thoracic artery supply
It supplies upper regions of the medial and anterior axillary walls.
the second part is divided into 2 parts what are the names
Lateral thoracic artery
Thoraco -acromial artery
what does the lateral thoracic artery supply
supplies the medial and anterior axillary walls & the breast in women.
what does the Thoraco -acromial artery supply
supplies the anterior axillary wall.
the 3rd part is divided into 3 what are the names
Subscapular artery
Anterior circumflex humeral artery
Posterior circumflex humeral artery:
what does the subscapular artery supply
major blood supply to the posterior wall of the axilla and scapular region.
what does the circumflex humeral arteries supply
Circumflex humeral arteries supply shoulder joint
where does the basilic vein originate
Originates from the dorsal venous network of the hand and ascends the medial aspect of the upper limb.
where does the basilic vein end
At the lower border of the teres major, the vein moves deep into the arm; where it combines with the brachial veins to from the axillary vein.
where does the cephalic vein start
Arises from the dorsal venous network of the hand. It ascends the antero-lateral aspect of the upper limb
where does the cephalic vein end
At the shoulder region, the cephalic vein travels between the deltoid and pectoralis major muscles (in the deltopectoral groove), and enters the axilla by penetrating deep fascia > draining into axillary vein
where does the cephalic and basilic vein connect
connected at the elbow by the median cubital vein.
