SVFR
A visual flight authorized by an ATC unit to operate within a control zone under meteorological conditions that are below VMC
What are the VFR minima for an AC in controlled airspace?
- Visual reference to the surface
- Flight vis must not be less than 3
- Distance from cloud must be at least 500ft vertically and 1 mile horizontally
What are the VFR minima for an AC within a control zone?
- Visual reference to the surface
- Ground vis must not be less than 3
- Distance from cloud must be at least 500ft vertically and 1 mile horizontally
- Except when taking off or landing, the AC must stay at least 500ft AGL
What are the VFR minima for an AC in uncontrolled airspace above 1000ft AGL
- During day flight vis is not less than 1 mile
- During night flight vis is not less than 3 miles
- Distance from cloud is not less than 500ft vertically and 2000ft horizontally.
What are the VFR minima for a helicopter in uncontrolled airspace below 1000ft AGL?
- During the day flight vis must be at least 2 miles(unless otherwise authorized).
- During the night flight vis must be at least 3 miles
- Must be operated clear of cloud
What are the VFR minima for an AC in uncontrolled airspace below 1000ft AGL?
- During day the flight vis must be at least 2 miles
- At night flight vis must be at least 3 miles
- AC must be operated clear of cloud
IMC
Instrument Meteorological Conditions: Meteorological conditions less than the minima specified for visual meteorological conditions expressed in terms of visbility and distance from cloud.
What are the SVFR minima for AC and helicopters?
- AC must have a flight vis of 1 mile
- Helicopters must have a flight vis of 1/2 mile
- Both must be operated clear of cloud and within sight of the ground
If there is no ground vis report, can SVFR be authorized.
Yes, SVFR operations MAY be allowed based on a flight vis report.
At night, in which circumstances may SVFR be authorized?
- Any AC for the purpose of landing at the aerodrome
- Any type of helicopter
What is the phraseology when ground visibility is two miles and a VFR AC calls up?
WEATHER BELOW VFR MINIMA, VISIBILITY TWO, IFR OR SPECIAL VFR AUTHORIZATION IS REQUIRED. WHAT ARE YOUR INTENTIONS?
What is the phraseology when ground vis is 1/2 and a VFR AC calls up requesting SVFR?
WEATHER BELOW SPECIAL VFR MINIMA, VISIBILITY ONE HALF, IFR AUTHORIZATION IS REQUIRED, WHAT ARE YOUR INTENTIONS?
When an AC requests SVFR, what are the three responses ATC may give?
ATC may:
