Autonomic nervous system drugs Flashcards
Where are alpha one receptors located?
α1 – blood vessels, bladder (post-synaptic)
What is the function of α2 receptors ?
α2 - inhibits Norepinephrine release (pre-synaptic)
Where is B1 located ?
β1 - heart (rate, force), kidney (renin)
Where is b2 located ?
β2 - lung (bronchodilation), skeletal muscle (vasodilation), GI tract (motility↓, sphincter close)
Where is B3 located ?
β3 - bladder (relaxation)
What medication can be used for nasal decongestants ?
How does it do this ?
What class of medication is it ?
- Phenylephrine
- Oxymetazoline
Alpha-1 adrenoceptor agonists include oxymetazoline, which are used as nasal decongestants through the constriction of nasal blood vessels.
Name two different alpha 1 adrenoreceptor ANTAGONIST.
What do they do?
As it is an antagonist, they relax!
Antihypertensive - Doxazosin by decreasing peripheral resistance.
Treatment of urinary retention - Tamsulosin. This works by relaxing the bladder, neck, and prostate muscles.
Name some Beta-2 adrenoceptor agonists
SABA - salbutamol
LABA - Salmeterol and fomoterol.
What can be used for urinary incontience, explain this.
Mirabergon - B3 agonist
-Relaxes detrusor muscle in the bladder
- Increases bladder capacity in overactive bladder
Name a the B1-adrenoceptor ANTAGONIST?
bisprolol
