autonomic nervous system Flashcards
function, sensory receptors located and the effectors
-unconscious control of body; involuntary response
-visceral organs(heart lungs blood vessels etc.
-smooth m., cardiac m., glands and adipose tissue
what are the 2 subdivision of the autonomic ns
- sympathetic ( fight or flight)- thoracolumbar region
- parasympathetic (rest and digest)- craniosacral region
hypothalamus function in autonomic NS
- control autonomic functions (digestion, respiration, heart rate, blood pressue)
-coordinates function of endocrine system via pituitary gland
-regulates body temp
structural difference of sympathetic vs. parasympathetic
location preganglionic:
s- lat gray horns from t1-L2
ps- brainstem and lt. portion of ant gray horn s2-s4
location PNS ganglia:
s- sympathetic chain and collateral, adrenal medulla(vertebral column)
ps- intramural or terminal
neurotransmitter ( near or in target organs)
s- pre, acetylcholine post, norepinephrine
ps - pre, ach post, ach
location of symapthetic ganglia
-sympathetic chain (both sides vertebral column
-collateral ( superior mesenteric ganglion, celiac ganglion and -inferior mesenteric ganglion)
adrenal medulla ( adrenal gland- release norepinephrine)
terminal vs intrmural
terminal= near target organ
intramural= within target organ
cranial nerves III, VII, IX, X
III- innervates eye causing eye movement (motor)
VII- innervate salivary glands ( sensory and motor)
IX- innervates salivary gland(sensory and motor)
X- innervates thoracic and abdominal organs (sensory and motor
