A neurological and developmental condition that affects how people interact with others, communicate, learn and behave.

More severe presentations and poorer treatment outcomes.
What are the symptom overlaps btwn AN and ASD?
Weak central coherence, cognitive inflexibility, set shifting, emotion processing, theory of mind.
what can the effects of starvation look like in terms of autism?
can lead to social withdrawal and obsessive behaviour, making it superficially appear like autism.
What are the challenges when assessing sex ratios of autism and EDs?
Females may be more willing to seek help and admit difficulties. may be more social pressures in one sex more than the other. biases in certain diagnostic criteria.
How do females present in autism?
Research relates predominately to male samples. Females are usually diagnosed later than males - may be due to higher expectations from family?
Is the sex ratio constant in autism?
no - sex ratio is similar for those with IQ’s of less than 50.
What did Huffman and Warchburger find about men and muscularity concerns?
Found that higher levels of muscularity concerns predicted higher levels of disordered eating in males.
