Atypical Behaviour Core Theory Behaviourist Flashcards
Classical conditioning
Learning by association, associating a response to a stimulus
Some are instinctive, unconditioned response triggered from unconditioned stimuli eg poison vomiting.
Behaviourist are
People who believe phobias are learnt. You can link fear to a bad situation/ experience -classical conditioning
Neutral stimuli
Something you don’t normally cause a response too. Eg chips, if you vomit after them you may never eat them again, conditioned stimulus, learnt response could change inrpto a conditioned response.
Animals can be classically conditioned too.
Dog salivates ucr when brought food ucs. A bell ns goes on when food is around dog salivates. Bell goes off cs dog salivates cr.
The bee
Bee ucs, your fearful ucr, bee ucs stings you bee neutral after sting bee is cs and response is cr.
Operant conditioning.
Learning by consequences, rewarding do it again, not then don’t. Operant explains why cc phobias continue.
Ignores
Thinking behind behaviour, eg accident in the dark two people act differently.
Assume direct experience needed.
Phobias learnt from parents.
Doesn’t explain how can be afraid of something you’ve had no contact too.
British scarred of snakes, more to do with nature.
