Attitude def
A predisposition to act ina particular way towards something to someone in a persons environment
3 components of attitude
Beliefs - cognitive
Emotions - this is the affective element
Behaviour - behavioural
Beliefs
Formed through past experiences and by what we have learned from others.
People who are significant to us are more likely to influence are beliefs
Emotions
Whether we like is or dislike it depends on past experiences. Previously experienced satisfaction you are more likely to look forward to the event again
Behaviour
Not always consistent with our attitude
More likely to behave in a way that reveals are attitude
Example of components of attitude
Attitude to fitness training is that you believe it will enhance your body image.
You enjoy training and have fun-affective
You go twice a week- behavioural
One main method of changing an attitude
Persuasive communication
4 things that affect the effectiveness of the persuasion
-the persuader

Cognitive dissonance
Theory states that all of the three elements involved in the triadic model should be consistent of attitude is to remain stable
If attitude is wanting to be changed the individual must experience two or more opposing beliefs.
Creates disharmony/dissonance in their mind.
Reasons/influences for positive attitudes to physical activity
They believe in the value of exercise
They are good at activity
They experience a stress break (catharsis)
See participation as a social norm
Reasons/influences for negative attitudes to physical activity
Belief it is harmful and they are better off doing other activities
Lack physical/ perceptual skills required
See the social norm as being non participation
