Attention Flashcards
Selective attention
Focus on one thing at a time. Like a flashlight. Only one thing is illuminated
Exogenous
External things that capture our attention. Loud noise.
Endogenous
Internal. Intentionally focus on something. Listening to a conversation about you in a room full of people
Inattentional blindness
Fail to acknowledge things right in front of us.
Change blindness
Not realizing when things change. That we had previously focused on
Broadbents early selection theory
2 inputs–>sensory buffer–> filtering (filters out one input)—>one signal goes to short term memory.
I hear 2 different things but only pay attention to one
Deutsch late selection theory
Inputs and long term memory work together—> unconscious analysis—> response
Treismon attention theory
2 inputs–>sensory buffer—> attenuator (weakens on input)–> both signals (one greatly reduced) go to short term memory
Basically oh hear 2 different things, focus on one, but the other is still kinda there
Like broadbents except you still revive some on the filtered signal too
Priming
Priming your brain for something. Can be unconsciously done
Multitasking/ divided attention
Task similarity
