Atrial Preference Pacing Flashcards
What is atrial preference pacing?
An algorithm designed to maximize atrial pacing to reduce atrial tachyarrhythmias.
What are the settings for atrial preference pacing?
Maximum rate, interval decrement, and search beats.
What is the nominal setting?
Off
In what modes is APP available?
DDDR, DDD, AAIR, AAI
What is interval decrement?
When the device senses an atrial event, it will increase the pacing rate by decreasing the interval between paced atrial events, per this setting.
What is search beats?
After this number of consecutive paces, the atrial pacing rate will drop to determine the current intrinsic atrial rate.
Where is this feature found?
In pacers: Params>Arrhythmia Interventions, In ICD’s: Pacing>Params>Arrhythmia/Post Shock
What features cannot be enabled when APP is programmed “On.”
Single Chamber Hysteresis, Sleep Function, Sinus Preference, and Rate Drop Response.
Does APP affect the battery life?
Yes, because it tends to increase the atrial pacing percentage.
How, specifically, does APP work?
After each non-refractory atrial sensed event, the device decreases the pacing interval by the programmed interval decrement value until the rate is high enough to overtake the intrinsic rhythm. This rate continues for the programmed number of “search beats,” then lowers (+20ms, non-programmable) to search for the intrinsic atrial rate.
How is APP annotated on the marker channel?
Proactive Pace (PP)
When is APP suspended?
During mode switch and PMOP and it will not increase the pacing rate due to an atrial sense during capture management tests.
What feature may delay an atrial pace that results from APP?
Non-Competitive Atrial Pacing
In what pacemakers is APP available?
Advisa MRI Surescan, Revo MRI, Adapta, Enrhythm
In what ICD’s is APP available?
Evera, Protecta, Consulta, Concerto
