Atoms Flashcards
What are elements?
Elements are substances made of one type of atom. Each atom of an element will have the same number of protons.
What are compounds?
Compounds are made up of different types of atoms chemically bonded together. The atoms in a compound have different numbers of protons.
What are isotopes?
Isotopes are atoms of the same element with different numbers of neutrons.
How do you calculate relative atomic mass?
Relative atomic mass = (Abundance of isotope 1 x mass of isotope 1) + (abundance of isotope 2 x mass of isotope 2) divded by 100.
what is the atomic number?
The atomic number is the number of protons in the nucleus of an atom.
What is the atomic mass?
The atomic mass is something that tells us the number of protons and neutrons
How would you work out how many neutrons are there in an element?
Atomic mass - atomic number
