Biological approach
o Behaviors, emotions and cognitions can be explained in terms of the working of the brain and the effect of hormones, genetic and evolution.
o Similarities and differences between people can be understood in terms of biological factors and their interaction with other factors.
Cognitive approach
o Similarities between the way people and computers work.
Input –> processing –> Output.
o There are individual differences between People’s cognitive abilities like attention, memory etc, This helps explain our differing emotions and behaviours.
Learning approach
o All life starts as a blank slate. Observable changes to our behaviour can result from interaction with our environment.
o The processes of social learning, operant conditioning and classical conditioning are the ways in which humans and animals learn. These processes involve stimulus-response i.e. experiences within our environment (stimuli) shape our behaviour (response)
Social Approach
o Our behaviours, cognitions and emotions can be influenced by the actual, implied or imagined presence of others.
o All of our behaviour, cognitions and emotions can be influenced by social contexts, social environment and groups.
