Assessment and Testing Flashcards
Normative test format
each item is independent of all other items
Ipsative test format
compare traits within the same individual; they do not compare a person to other persons who took the instrument
Spiral test
the items get progressively more difficult
Cyclical test
has several sections that are spiral in nature
Vertical test
has versions for different age brackets or levels of education
Horizontal test
measures various factors (math and science) during the same testing procedure
Test battery
several measures are used to produce results that could be more accurate than those derived from using a single source; considered a horizontal test
Parallel forms
a test has two versions that are interchangeable
Validity
whether the test measures what it says it measures
Reliability
tells how consistent a test measures an attribute
Content validity
AKA rational or logical validity; does the test examine or sample the behavior under scrutiny
Construct validity
a test’s ability to measure a theoretical construct such as intelligence, self-esteem or artistic talent
Concurrent validity
deals with how well the test compares to other instruments that are intended for the same purpose; falls under criterion validity
Predictive validity
AKA empirical validity; reflects that test’s ability to predict future behavior according to established criteria; falls under criterion validity
Consequential validity
tries to ascertain the social implications of using tests
