MECHANISM OF ACTION
- INHIBITS PLATELET AGGREGATION BY BLOCKING THE FORMATION OF THROMBOXANE A2 -> THROMBOXANE A2 CAUSES PLATELET AGGREGATION AND ARTERIAL CONSTRICTION.
- COX INHIBITOR -> INHIBITS PROSTAGLANDIN SYNTHESIS AND REDUCES SPREAD OF INFLAMMATION.

ONSET: 5 - 30min
PEAK: 15 - 120min
DURATION: 1 - 4hr
1/2 LIFE: 15 - 20min
INDICATIONS
NEW ONSET CHEST PAIN SUGGESTIVE OF AMI / ACS
CONTRAINDICATIONS
HYPERSENSITIVITY, RELATIVELY CONTRAINDICATED WITH ACTIVE ULCER DISEASE AND ASTHMA
SIDE EFFECTS
GI BLEEDING, WHEEZING, N + V, HEARTBURN, PROLONGED BLEEDING
DOSEAGE
ADULT: 160 - 325mg PO (81mg baby aspiring preferred because it can be chewed and swallowed)
PEDI: NOT RECOMMENDED
PRECAUTIONS
GIVING DOSES HIGHER THAN RECOMMENDED CAN INTERFERE WITH POSSIBLE BENEFITS, USE ENTERIC COATED PILLS WITH PT’S WITH HISTORY OF GI BLEED
DRUG 2 DRUG INTERACTIONS
- ASPIRIN + OTHER ANTI-INFLAMMATORY AGENTS = ADDITIVE EFFECTS
- ASPIRIN + ANTACID -> DECREASES BLOOD LEVELS OF DRUG BECAUSE IT DECREASES ABSORBTION
