Is a tube made from PVC, inserted to te nose or the mouth into the trachea ( the client cannot speak while it is in place)
Endotracheal tubes
Purpose of artificial airway care.
To administer O2
To suction secretions
To bypass upper airway obstruction
It is an artificial aperture made through the neck into the trachea of patient needing ling-term airway maintenance.
- It is inserted using a laryngoscope.
- Can be temporary or permanent.
- Can be cuffed ir cuffless.
Tracheostomy tubes
Parts of the artificial airway.
Outer cannula-inserted into the trachea.
Inner cannula- it is removed for cleaning.
Obturator- guide the outer cannula during initial placement. (NOTE: keep at the bedside)
Position of the patient with artificial airway.
Fowler’s position
Communication used in client with artificial airway
Sign language or picture boards
Solution used in cleaning the cannula (artifucial airway).
Hydrogen peroxide then wash with NSS
Nursing consideration in artificial airway: safety
Don sterile gloves
Emergency care in patient with artificial airway
Have obturator and suction apparatus in place.
